DOL Allocates Additional $2.9 Million for Recovery Efforts in Northern California Wildfires
The total support for the cleanup and recovery effort has now reached nearly $6 million.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has committed an additional allocation of more than $2.9 million to the state of California to aid in the ongoing cleanup and recovery efforts following the devastating wildfires that swept through the northern part of the state in 2021.
According to a release dated March 25, this latest funding now raises the total support to $5,936,700. The wildfires, which raged from July to October 2021, severely damaged Lassen National Forest, Lassen National Park, Plumas National Forest and Trinity National Forest. The disaster also reduced the nation’s supply of lumber, adversely affecting rebuilding efforts.
In February 2022, the DOL awarded an $8.9 million National Dislocated Worker Grant to the California Employment Development Department, with an initial disbursement of $2.9 million. The grant facilitates temporary employment opportunities in debris removal and forest restoration activities across Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Tehama and Trinity counties. It also aims to provide employment and training services to eligible individuals in impacted areas.
Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration and supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, these National Dislocated Worker Grants aim to temporarily expand service capacity for dislocated worker programs on state and local levels in response to significant job losses resulting from large, unexpected economic events.
