DuPont—which specializes in creating sustainable water, shelter and safety solutions—has announced the Tyvek Sustainable Healthcare Packaging Awards, a new initiative for recognizing companies within the healthcare sector that have made efforts toward sustainability packaging.
According to a release dated Feb. 1, this global awards program focuses on packaging made with DuPont’s own Tyvek material. The program is open to participation by medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, sterile packaging producers, healthcare facilities, universities, and material recovery facilities. Companies must have implemented their sustainable packaging initiatives within the last 18 months and demonstrate measurable achievements in sustainability.
“Enabling the healthcare packaging industry to be more sustainable is a collaborative effort, and that’s why we have developed this awards program to recognize the spectacular achievements in this space,” Kelly Reichert, global business director of DuPont Tyvek & Typar Roll Goods, said in a statement. “We’re proud of the essential innovations we deliver to improve patient safety and help people live long and healthy lives, and we’re pleased to shine a light on the advancements in sustainability being made across the healthcare industry.”
This awards program aligns with DuPont's continuous efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions across global supply chains. In 2022, the company surpassed its 2030 goal of reducing Scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent, relative to a 2019 baseline.
Companies that are interested in participating can submit applications online at the Tyvek website. The deadline for applications is June 28, 2024. A panel of experts in sustainability, healthcare and packaging will join other thought leaders to judge the entries. Winners will be announced during a virtual Medical Packaging Conference hosted by DuPont in the fall of 2024.
